Below is a list of all elevators and lifts at UCSC, and their hours of operation. They are all serviced on a monthly basis; servicing generally takes between 10-15 minutes. Occasionally, elevators will break down. If you suspect that an elevator is not functioning, and there is no informational sign posted on the elevator telling you when the elevator is expected to be fixed, you can call the Work Order Desk at x9-4444, 24 hours a day. If the staff at the Work Order Desk are aware of that elevator not functioning, they will be able to tell you when the repair person was called; the elevator will usually be fixed within 24 hours of any service call. However, your call might be the first the Work Order Desk has heard of any problem, in which case they will immediately contact the repair person. If you are stuck, whether due to an elevator needing repair or the elevator being shut down for the night, call x9-4444. During business hours, the Work Order Desk will dispatch someone to assist you in finding an alternate route. After business hours, you will be connected with Campus Dispatch, who can send a custodian to turn on the elevator. If you are inside an elevator that breaks down, pick up the emergency phone located in every elevator. It will ring directly to Campus Dispatch, who will get someone out to help immediately. There are a number of wheelchair lifts on campus. Originally, they all required a universal lift key; however, during 2005-2006, all but one of these lifts has been rewired to work without a key. The one exception is the stair lift at Merrill College. If you need to use it, you can get a key. Students should contact the Disability Resource Center (x9-2089) to request a key; staff and faculty can contact the Lockshop (x9-2165) directly, or Susan Willats, ADA Compliance Officer for Facilities, Transportation, and Computing Access (x9-3759).
