File a Complaint

Disability discrimination and filing a complaint

UCSC is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible environment. Disability discrimination occurs when a person is treated unfairly because of a disability, or when the university fails to provide reasonable accommodations without a valid reason, such as undue burden or fundamental alteration. The Equity & Equal Protection Office (EEP) is dedicated to ensuring equal and equitable access to education, employment, and campus programs for all students, staff, faculty, and members of the public visiting campus. EEP oversees policies and processes related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on protected identities, such as race, disability, sex, and age. The office also offers guidance, resources, and support to uphold compliance with state and federal laws and to foster an inclusive environment for all.

If you believe you have been discriminated against because of a disability, you have the right to file a complaint with the university. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the public can submit a discrimination complaint using the webform or you can email at equity@ucsc.edu to learn more about the process.

Retaliation

Retaliation against persons who request reasonable employment accommodations, file complaints of discrimination, participate in an investigation of such a complaint, or oppose unlawful employment practices is prohibited by federal and state law and university policy. Employees and applicants for employment who believe they have been retaliated against are encouraged to report the retaliatory actions to the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity.
