Students on the UCSC campus

Program Access

At UC Santa Cruz, we are committed to providing equal access to all our programs, services, and activities for individuals with disabilities.

Student Access

The Disability Resource Center (DRC), within the Division of Student Affairs and Success, manages student program access and is committed to promoting the full participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of university life.

The DRC supports students seeking accommodations, using assistive technology and improving the accessibility of the UCSC learning environment.

Employment Access

Disability Management Services (DMS), within Risk Services, manages employment access. Disability Management Services (DMS) provides assistance to faculty, staff and student employees whose disability may impact their ability to work.  In accordance with federal and state disability laws, UC  policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements, DMS engages employees in the Interactive Process to work together to identify an accommodation.

Public Access

The ADA Compliance Office manages Public Access. Reasonable accommodations, such as accessible seating, sign language interpreters, assistive devices, or our disability van service, can provide equal access to programs and activities for individuals with disabilities. For accommodations at in-person or virtual events, please contact the event organizer directly, or the campus ADA Compliance Officer at adaccess@ucsc.edu.

Physical Access

UCSC is required to make its facilities accessible to and usable by people with disabilities. While some older buildings may be exempt from this requirement by law, every reasonable attempt must be made upon request to provide access or a reasonable alternative so that persons with disabilities may fully participate in our programs and activities.

If a work area is not accessible to employees with disabilities, appropriate accommodations should be made. For assistance, contact the ADA Compliance Officer at adaccess@ucsc.edu.

Information Technology (IT Access)

The Digital Accessibility Team, within Information Technology Services (ITS), manages the campus digital accessibility program, including compliance with requirements to provide accessible digital content, technology, and services. The team is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities can fully, equally, and independently contribute to, use, and participate in digital life at UC Santa Cruz. The team supports the digital accessibility program via governance, how-to information, accessibility and risk evaluations, response to barrier reports, consultation, and integration with existing services such as UCSC WordPress. For more information, contact digitalaccessibility@ucsc.edu.

Who can request access?

We provide accommodations and accessibility support for:

  • Students: Academic accommodations are available through the Disability Resource Center to ensure an accessible learning environment.
  • Faculty and Staff: Workplace accommodations can be requested through Disability Management Services to support accessible work environments.
  • Members of the Public: Visitors can request accommodations for events, tours, or other university programs by contacting the event organizer or the campus ADA Compliance Officer at adaccess@ucsc.edu. We recommend submitting requests as early as possible to allow time for arrangements.
